Children & Youth
We believe that church should be a place where young people are loved, valued, and want to come to learn about Jesus. We believe it should be a place where kids grow in faith, make friends, and have fun. First Wayne Street offers a unique opportunity for children, youth and their families. Our downtown location draws young people from all of Allen County's four school corporations.
First Wayne Street provides a safe, secure, and caring environment for your children. Our children's programming is scripturally rooted, but flexible and fun. At FWS, children experience the love of God through numerous offerings: children's messages in worship, Sunday school classes, Wednesday evenings' Making the Connection activities during the school year, Vacation Bible School during the summer, church camp, family outings, and a music program that includes a children's handbell choir and two children's choirs. In the fall, First Wayne Street has a "Children & Youth Service," when the entire service is presented by our children and youth. Each December, the children put on a Christmas pageant. And each spring we present a children & youth musical.
For young children, we also maintain a bright, clean nursery.
Our children's ministry teachers, helpers, and volunteers are dedicated; we have rules that teach respect in an atmosphere of grace and caring. In addition, we observe strict child protection guidelines. The children's program includes kids up to 5th grade.
Kids who are looking for a place to be accepted as themselves without peer pressure will find First Wayne Street a place to blossom into the people God intended them to be. Let's face it: sometimes the world can be a difficult place, especially when you're young and vulnerable. And growing up is hard. At First Wayne Street, youth can be themselves and forge their own paths without the pressures (school cliques, bullying, pressure to perform and achieve) that seem to be unavoidable in school and many other places. Growing up can be just a little bit easier here.
The youth of FWS have their own Sunday School classes, their own meeting time on Wednesday nights during Making the Connection, and many planned outings (with and without their families). The youth are often given leadership opportunities, where they are called upon to assist with children's activities. In addition, the youth make a work mission trip each summer, allowing them to begin to learn firsthand how valuable their time and energy can be to those in need.
Our youth ministry has composed its own mission statement: First Wayne Street youth ministry is dedicated to growth in Christ through fellowship, worship, service, and study = FWS2. The youth ministry includes kids from 6th grade through high school.
