Pastor Cheryl Garbe has been First Wayne Street's senior minister since July 2017.
Pastor Jim McKay, Visitation Minister, calls on shut-ins and assists with hospital visitation. Pastor Jim retired from full-time ministry in 2010. Pastor Jim's ministry has been inter-generational: he has a great passion and commitment to youth as well as to older adult ministry.
He is married to Margaret McKay, with whom he has two grown sons. Jim is also an avid model railroad enthusiast.
Prayer Life Minister
Pastor Denise Lapsley uses her gifts of preaching, speaking, and singing to inspire and heal. She recently served as a local pastor of the Monroeville United Methodist Church. Denise is a talented vocalist who weaves her passion for music into the colorful tapestry of her life. Currently, her love for choral music is expressed as a member of the Bach Collegium, the Praise Team at the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, and as a member of First Wayne Street's Sanctuary Choir. Denise studied vocal performance, participated in local theatre and has sung with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Chorus and the Heartland Chamber Chorale. Denise earned her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Ohio Northern University and a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne. She is a certified candidate for ordination in the United Methodist Church and is finishing pastoral study at United Theological Seminary at Dayton, Ohio. She is blessed with six grandchildren, three sons, and a daughter-in-law.
Director of Music & Organist
Dr. Geoffrey North, Director of Music Ministries & Church Organist, holds a Doctorate in Music Composition from Northwestern University. Geoff originally hails from Nova Scotia and is married to wife Jessie, with whom he has two daughters, Katie & Annabel. He is also an Adjunct Faculty Member in IPFW's music department. Dr. North joined the First Wayne Street staff in July 2010.
Director of Congregational Life & Nurture
Anna Zartman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Ohio University with an area of specialization in child development and family living. Having served as a director of pre-school, a teacher, and a caseworker supervisor for the Indiana Department of Public Welfare, she brings considerable experience and a strong faith to her present position. Anna is married to Roger Zartman, and they have a daughter, Katie.
Children's Choir Director
Phyllis Boester directs the Children's Choirs and Children's Handbells. Phyllis is a life-long resident of Fort Wayne, a music education graduate of IPFW, and has completed Levels I and II of Kodaly and Orff Schulwerk training. She also teaches music for Fort Wayne Community Schools and directs an intermediate level choir of the Fort Wayne Children's Choir. Phyllis is married and has two adult sons.
Connie Boren is the church's Office Manager. In addition to handling First Wayne Street's bookkeeping, overseeing scheduling of a very active church calendar, coordinating the work of office volunteers, and editing and publishing weekly bulletins, announcements, and mailings, Connie also keeps everybody focused and on task.
Cesar Anzaldua attends to the care and maintenance of church facilities and grounds. He is the proud father of two children, possesses a contagious evangelical spirit, and is an ambassador for Christ in all that he does.

Jessie North provides content for and helps maintain our website, Facebook page, and blog, and is the editor of our monthly newsletter, "The Good News." Jessamyn sings with both the Praise Team and the Sanctuary Choir, and is married to music director Geoff North, with whom she has two daughters, Katie & Annabel. She is also a freelance photographer and writer, and describes herself as a recovering attorney.
