Adult Classes:
The Koinonia Class is composed of adults who enjoy a variety of topics and outreach ministry, and has shared leadership. The class covers a diverse set of interests, with most weekly classes focused on a “stand alone” subject. For instance, in recent years the Koinonia class held a series of classes focused on “Prayers of the Faithful,” which studied the prayers of Mother Theresa, John Wesley, and Norman Vincent Peale, among others. This class occasionally also hosts speakers from community social agencies. This class is also involved in tutoring at Indian Village Elementary School, supporting families during the Christmas season, and other endeavors. This class meets in room 115.
The ROCK (Raising Our Christian Knowledge) Class is a diverse group in terms of age, socio-economic group, political & theological leanings, and life experiences, and the class welcomes adults of all ages. R.O.C.K. values open, informed discussion on current & relevant topics, and aims to enrich their understanding of God’s Word, the life and message of Christ, our Methodist heritage, and apply what they learn to their daily lives and their witness to the world. Leadership is shared among class members. Children of First Wayne Street and members of the ROCK Sunday School class join with the Christmas Bureau each year to organize the annual “Giving Tree” mission project. This class meets in room 215 (Parlor).
The Seekers is our newest Adult Sunday School class and is composed of young adults, middle-aged adults, and seniors. It includes couples and singles. Each week’s lesson is lead by a different class member on a wide range of topics — current events, self-awareness, and biblical teachings — all with a focus on following God’s plan for us. If you are new to First Wayne Street, feel free to give The Seekers a try; they would love to have you! This class meets in room 219 (East Parlor).
For the first half of 2020, The Seekers class is studying Adam Hamilton’s book, Seeing Gray in a World of Black and White. For the weekly schedule by chapter, visit the Sunday School page.
