First Wayne Street UMC expands ministry with new initiatives

  • “Life at the Table” A Dinner Church continues to grow with our monthly gatherings (next gathering: Thursday, September 19th with Mark Truesdell leading worship–arrive 5:30-6 with dinner served at 6pm.)  Attendance at our “soft launch” gatherings in June and July was 20-22. We have learned that a buffet is better than family-style serving (not so many dishes to wash!) and folks wanted more discussion time around their tables (a great thing for building relationships).  We are excited that the ladies from Redemption House want to be a part of this new worship experience as well!
  • Redemption House is our new neighbor! Executive Director Tomi Cardin will share about this ministry and its new second location one block from FWS in worship on Sunday, September 15th (UMW Sunday).  Redemption House is transforming the lives of women — and we are building new relationships with them through Life at the Table; the generosity of the FWS Boomerangs, who are donating food and toiletry items; and through volunteers who are stopping in during morning devotional time at the house to get acquainted.
  • Alive Community Outreach and their Executive Director, Rev. Angelo Mante have requested an office here at First Wayne Street as a base of operations and we are working to make that happen.  Rev. Mante is ordained in the United Methodist Church and knows firsthand the experience of gun violence in his own family and his a passion to support families, who have been victims of gun violence, as well as working in the community to educate and promote non-violence.
