Lifelong Learners

On early mornings, I love to sit in the parsonage living room for my devotional time.  Now that school has started, one can see the yellow school buses whizzing by and picking up students in the neighborhood. I remember being excited to return to school — laying out a new dress, new school shoes, and checking out all of my school supplies. A new notebook, new pink eraser, pens and pencils. A new school year, a new beginning, a new time of learning.

So maybe we are now past the days of getting on a school bus, but do we continue to be “learners”? In spite of a seminary education and two decades of parish experience, I am still learning… and growing. I have always said that I was excited to go to seminary so I could learn “all of the right answers to my theological questions”— only to discover I didn’t even know what the questions were! But I love to keep learning—from books, from Scripture, from others, from experience, from God.

Fall is a great time to jump in to some new learning opportunities and there are lots of choices at First Wayne Street this year!  Making the Connection is on Wednesdays starting this week, on September 19, and our Sunday School classes for both children & adults are back in full swing this Sunday. I invite you to be a life-long learner, too!

Blessings, Pastor Cheryl
