This Sunday, we will launch a new worship series called, “Messy Church.” Now, what comes to mind when you think of a “messy church?”
There’s a chance that images of litter, overflowing trash cans, clutter, dirty carpets, and smelly bathrooms come to mind. Now, here’s the Good News…Thanks to our amazing facilities manager, Cesar, that’s not an issue here at First Wayne Street.
When I think about a “messy church,” I think about the ways Jesus calls us out of our comfort zones and into ministry with the least, last, marginalized, overlooked, hurting, broken, confused and desperate in our world today.
Jesus never promised His followers that things would be easy, clean, neat and tidy. In fact, in Luke 9:23, Jesus says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.”
I don’t know about you but, denying oneself and taking up a cross sounds messy!
Throughout the “Messy Church” story, we will look at some of the “messy” stories found in the Bible. We will use those stories to consider our call to get messy in our faith-filled journey with Jesus.
Are you ready to get messy?
