Stephen Ministry

Care

Stephen Ministers are everyday people with a heart for helping others. They provide one-on-one emotional and spiritual support for anyone going through a difficult season.
We strive to cultivate a community of women who seek to grow in their faith, serve others, and support one another in all areas of life.

Training

Before serving, Stephen Ministers complete in-depth training in topics like listening, maintaining confidentiality, and providing thoughtful care. Ongoing support helps them grow and stay grounded as they serve.

Connection

Being part of Stephen Ministry means you’re never alone. Ministers meet regularly to check in, learn together, and support each other — ensuring that both caregivers and care receivers feel seen and valued.

Purpose

Many Stephen Ministers feel called to this work because they want to make a difference in someone’s life. It’s a meaningful way to care for others in our church and community during times when a little extra support can make a big impact.

What We Do

The Stephen Ministry meets at 1 pm the third Tuesday of the month. Meetings are usually held at the church.

If you’re going through a tough time and think it might help to talk with someone, reach out to Rev. Barry Belknap at barry@fwsumc.org. Everything is confidential, and there’s no pressure—just a conversation to see if Stephen Ministry could be a good fit for you.

tephen Ministers are here for anyone facing a challenging time: loss of a loved one, illness, divorce, caregiving stress, job changes, or simply feeling lost or alone. If you’re struggling, we’re here to support you.

If you’re someone who’s naturally caring and a good listener—or want to grow in those ways—Stephen Ministry might be a great fit. Email Rev. Barry Belknap at barry@fwsumc.org.
