Are you ready to head for a place where the hills meet the sky?
On Sunday, March 22, First Wayne Street United Methodist Church will host a special concert — ”Come Away to the Skies: A Celebration of the Music of Appalachia.”
It will be at 5 pm in the sanctuary. Admission is free.
The concert will feature the FWSUMC Chamber and Sanctuary choirs, as well as the Trine University Choir.
The unique presentation will include a complete performance of a “bluegrass” mass. This mass, called Come Away to the Skies: a High Lonesome Mass, is a piece that combines the traditional mass texts (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei, sung mostly in English) with traditional gospel hymns such as Do Lord, Holy Manna and What Wondrous Love Is.
The voices of the combined choirs will be accompanied by a bluegrass band of fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass and drums.
In addition to the mass the concert will feature various short choral pieces sung by the choirs individually and in unison.
Don’t miss this unique, toe-tapper of a concert!
