Love to cook? Share your talents during Gather
Volunteering to cook one of our community dinners is a fun and fulfilling way for church members to serve. First Wayne Street is in need of volunteers to prepare a meal during our Wednesday night fellowship. You do not need to be an experienced cook to make a meal.
We have a fully equipped kitchen for your group to use or you can do some of the cooking/prep off-site. Plus, First Wayne Street UMC will reimburse you for the cost of the ingredients.
Menu Guidelines
It is up to the cooks to decide on the menu. It can be as simple or elaborate as you like. We ask you try to make sure it include a protein, starch, vegetable, fruit, and dessert. The food served should be comparable to a meal you would serve to your friends rather than an “institutional meal.”
Volunteer Time
The time spent in preparation for the meal varies depending on the meal you choose to serve. The total time volunteer cooks spend onsite the day of the dinner is usually between 2 to 4 hours. Dinner is served at 5 pm.
Meal Ideas
Past meals have included: lasagna, spaghetti, chicken pot pie, tuna salad, tacos, ham and scalloped potatoes or cheesy potatoes, pulled pork, beef and potatoes, turkey and mashed potatoes, vegetable soup, ham and Swiss sliders, and chili.
